Brehm Students Excel in Local Art Competitions

Brehm understands that a creative outlet is crucial for its students, so students are encouraged to explore the arts with our talented instructors.

Students in Nan Novara and Chrissy Strusz's Art and Multi-Media Visual Communications Classes recently participated in two local art competitions.

Fourteen Brehm students were selected to display art at this year's John A. Logan College Regional High School Art Competition. Of this group, 3 Brehm students received awards:

Kevin C., 1st Place in Photography
Armen B., 3rd Place in 2D/Other Media
Eli F., Best of Show

In celebration of "Teen Tech Week", Brehm students also participated in the Carbondale Public Library Digital Photo Contest. Brehm students swept this category, taking the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. (Photos shown below.)

What is Brehm?

Brehm is an accredited junior-senior high school. A family style boarding school for students, grades 6 through 12, with complex learning disabilities.

OPTIONS Program at Brehm serves post high school students with learning disabilities who need to further develop academic and social skills required for success in college, vocational/technical school, and the workplace.

Brehm Preparatory School Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, offers a unique holistic program that individually addresses each student’s academic, emotional, and social needs.

Brehm uses the term “complex” learning disabilities in recognition that students experience difficulties in multiple areas of functioning. Brehm’s holistic program focuses on the combined academic, social and emotional effects of having a learning disability.

Our students often have multiple diagnoses affecting their performance with the core issue of having a language-based etiology. We recognize the combined effects of LD/ADD, language based processing issues, executive function issues and the social and psychological implications of not being successful in an academic environment. Brehm offers direct interventions for students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, NLD, aspergers, anxiety disorder, tourettes, auditory processing disorder, speed of processing disorders and interventions requiring behavioral and emotional support as it relates to academic issues.
